We look forward to meeting you at The University of Tennessee very soon. This page will provide you with all the necessary information prior your arrival on Monday, June 11th. As the festival begins and progresses, you will be periodically updated with information regarding the many moving parts of our activities through this page — please bookmark it for future reference! Travel - Arrival & Departure
The 2018 Nief-Norf Summer Festival will be held at The University of Tennessee in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center.
We will provide a shuttle to transport you to/from the airport. Please email email@example.com with your arrival and departure times to secure your airport shuttle.
If you are driving to nnSF you will need a parking pass to park on campus. Parking passes cost $35 for the duration of the festival (June 11–25), and will allow you to park in specific lots on the University of Tennessee-Knoxville campus. Please make your parking pass payment here to reserve a pass ahead of time. You may also choose to find parking elsewhere in Knoxville, if you prefer. Dorm Check-in - Monday, June 11th (Time TBA)
We will have a Nief-Norf table set up at Volunteer Hall on Monday for general information, linens, and (for those who signed up for) dining hall wrist-bands and parking permits.
Once you have checked in, please make your way to the Music Center for the 7:30pm Faculty Concert.
Dorm Check-out - Monday, June 25th (Time TBA)
The morning following the final marathon concert, we ask that all participants assist in packing up the equipment and cleaning the rehearsal and concert spaces from 9am to 12pm. We will provide you with transportation to the airport. Don't forget to check out of the dorms before you go!

Accommodations and Dining
If you are staying at the dorms, upon arrival please report to Volunteer Hall to check in:

Dorm rooms are apartment style – each participant will have their own bedroom and share a bathroom with their suite mates, as well as a common room that includes a washer, dryer, and a kitchen fitted with a sink, stove, oven, and fridge/freezer (*but no laundry detergent, pots/pans, bowls/plates, cutlery, etc provided*). Your room key will also unlock the building door to the dorm if it is locked; otherwise, call the front desk phone to have someone open the door for you. The dorms are about a fifteen-minute walk to the Presidential Court cafeteria and Natalie L. Haslam Music Center. There will be lockers available for our use at the music center, so you won't need to carry your instruments and equipment to and from the dorms.
If you opted in for the meal plan, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided daily at the cafeteria; your first meal will be lunch on June 11, and your last will be breakfast on June 25. Wristbands are required to eat at the cafeteria, and will be given to you upon check-in. Please note that on days in which we have off-campus performances you may need to provide dinner for yourself at one of the many restaurants in downtown Knoxville; these meals are not covered by your tuition, so please plan accordingly.

Wifi access: You will have access to wifi campus-wide. Wifi username and login information will be updated closer to the festival.

Festival Schedule & repertoire distribution
The festival schedule is available through Sched, an online event organizer. Prior to the start of the festival, you will receive an email inviting you to join Sched; accept the invitation in order to view the full festival schedule.
The daily schedule usually comprises of morning and afternoon rehearsals and composition lessons, midday norf SPACE events and guest artist presentations, evening concerts (or sometimes more rehearsals), and group hangs sprinkled throughout. Please note that the festival schedule is subject to change, and we will make all updates through Sched.
Repertoire and parts are being distributed via email from now through May 14. You will receive a final check-in confirmation once you have received all the music you'll be performing.

norf SPACE is a lunchtime concert/event series occurring regularly throughout the festival. Playing on this concert series is not mandatory, but is a great chance to showcase artistry that otherwise does not have an outlet already built in to our many activities, such as solo performances, presenting and/or discussing your own compositions, workshops, live collaborations, etc – the sky's the limit; get creative! If you would like assistance in facilitating contact with potential collaborators ahead of time, please send an email with your idea/s.
In order to accommodate as many people as possible, first preference will be given to proposals submitted early and comprising 10min or less in length (excerpts from longer pieces are welcome). That said, please don't be discouraged from longer or more elaborate submissions; we will try to work as many people as possible into this series.

- Headphones if performing from a click track. In-ear monitors are preferred; please no over-ear or basic Apple earbuds (the latter tends to bleed sound in performance).
- All music and scores printed in advance (unless using a laptop or tablet)
- Any secondary instruments you may be using
- Sunscreen, sun glasses / rain gear - check the weather forecast!
- A light jacket or sweater - the music building air conditioning can be rather chilly
- You may want to bring your own bath towel (the ones provided are fairly small and thin), and shower sandals (the rooms are not carpeted).
- Laundry detergent and dryer sheets
- Kitchen implements as needed
- Hand soap & toiletries
- Linens – though we will provide basic linens, you may consider bringing your own
- There is also a nearby Walmart in case you'd rather procure some of these items locally
- Black towels and/or foam
- Small and/or unique instruments (maracas, triangles, siren whistles, etc)
- Large selection of sticks, mallets, and beaters for each piece
- Specialized/unique mallets (superball, etc)
- If you're in doubt whether you should bring something, ask!
- Amplifier and appropriate cables
- Concert dress code will be 'casual yet concerned.' Concerned includes dress slacks and dresses, but does not extend to all black; casual includes nice jeans and stylish kicks, but does not extend to shorts and sandals.
