Nief-Norf Director of Communications

General Description:

The Director of Communications is responsible for the development of Nief-Norf’s communication strategy and will directly manage communication activities that promote, enhance, and help define the organization’s core messages and overall artistic mission. 

The Director of Communications will develop relationships with the local, national, and international media, shape Nief-Norf messaging, and work with current staff to ensure consistent delivery. 

The position works with the Nief-Norf administration team to design integrated and inspired communication strategies for the performance ensemble and annual summer festival, aiming to further engage a national and international audience. The Director of Communications designs and supervises publications, coordinating regular email communications and a quarterly newsletter, ensuring consistency in digital and printed materials across all of Nief-Norf’s outreach. 

The Director of Communications will lead Nief-Norf’s online presence and social media engagement, handling all social media platforms, website design and expansion, and content marketing, to tell compelling stories about community impact through Nief-Norf’s performance and educational initiatives. The Director will also support communications for other organizational activities designed to deepen Nief-Norf’s relationship with a broader network of audiences and supporters.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Leads all internal and external communications using a variety of media channels and resources including print, digital, radio, and other media
  • Develops and maintains meaningful relationships with local and national media 
  • Manages media requests and actively seeks coverage for the full range of Nief-Norf’s artistic activities
  • Maintains the online presence of Nief-Norf’s message and mission, ensuring that all communications reflect a cohesive presence across publications, print, social media platforms, website, email, and more 
  • Coordinates press releases and announcements internally and externally, using imaginative approaches, including regular MailChimp communications
  • Oversees the production of a quarterly newsletter, email communications, video, and social media 
  • Works with staff to develop their role in Nief-Norf publicity efforts 
  • Monitors, analyzes and communicates progress on a regular basis
  • Attends Nief-Norf events to serve as a liaison to the media and public 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Experience:

  • Excellent editing (photo/video/text), writing, proofreading, and communication skills
  • Proven working experience in social media or as a digital media manager
  • Strong knowledge of web design and web development (e.g. Squarespace)
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and administrative skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and work independently 
  • Strategic thinker with knowledge of the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors
  • Ability to operate in a Apple / Mac network environment and experience with desktop publishing and other computer applications necessary

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of and passion for the contemporary arts
  • Experience in a public relations or marketing position at a non-profit or related field 
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Music, Marketing, Journalism or related field
  • Experience with MailChimp and Squarespace

Nief-Norf Director of Development

Applications open! Deadline: July 27 or until filled

General Description:

The Director of Development works in collaboration with the Nief-Norf administration team to create and implement Nief-Norf’s development strategy, to build and sustain financial support, and secure additional funding for the Nief-Norf organization. This person will have a history of fundraising, management, reporting, and planning. The Director of Development will manage a contributor/donor portfolio, working to strengthen relations with current and recent contributors and stewarding new supporters.

Other duties include grant writing and event planning. The Director is responsible for adhering to and reporting on Nief-Norf’s budget. Skills required include: communication and management skills; familiarity with funding databases and analytics; experience in non-profit administration; and fundraising.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements, and oversees all fundraising activities including annual giving, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events, special projects, and other related activities.
  • Meets or exceeds fundraising goals as related to annual fundraising campaigns as well as other special projects.
  • Manages all individual contributor relations.
  • Provides timely reports relating to fundraising goals, new funds raised, and overall progress, including providing detailed reports of income and expense for the Nief-Norf board, while working within budgetary guidelines.
  • Writes grant proposals, cultivates new supporters, does accounting and record-keeping for gift-giving, and other development responsibilities.
  • Manages and implements fundraising events
  • Attends all required staff meetings and works collaboratively with the entire Nief-Norf team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience: 

  • Commitment to supporting access to high quality music programming.
  • Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proven experience in designing and managing fundraising plans and programs.
  • Experience stewarding relationships with board members and supporters.
  • Must demonstrate strong administrative skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and work independently 
  • Strategic thinker with knowledge of the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors
  • Ability to operate in a Apple / Mac network environment and experience with desktop publishing and other computer applications necessary
