Performance Workshop Application [fully enrolled for nnSF 2017]

The 2017 Performance Workshop is fully enrolled, and no new applicants will be accepted. Please check again in the Fall for news about the 2018 festival.

To apply, fill out a Performance Workshop Application for your instrument. Each applicant will need to list their education, solo and chamber repertoire experience, any specific requests for chamber repertoire to be performed at the festival, and upload a headshot. Applicants must also submit a website link (YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud, etc) containing select audio or video footage of their performance abilities, totaling no more than fifteen minutes in length. A non-refundable fifty dollar ($50 USD) application fee is required to finalize the submission. Keep in mind you can save your progress as you go - no need to do it all at once!

The nnSF Performance Workshop offers a concentrated chamber music experience and currently invites applications from all instrumentalists and vocalists over the age of 18 (including undergraduates, graduates, and professionals).

Composition Workshop [fully enrolled for nnSF 2017]

The 2017 Composition Workshop is fully enrolled, and no new applicants will be accepted. Please check again in the Fall for news about the 2018 festival.

To apply, fill out the Composition Workshop Application which will require contact information and education background, as well as a non-refundable fifty dollar ($50 USD) application fee to finalize the submission.

In addition, each applicant must upload the following when prompted:

  • Two scores (PDFs) and recordings (optional) representing what you feel is your strongest work. 
  • A statement of interest describing the piece you would like to compose for the festival, including some ideas for instrumentation. The final instrumentation will be determined by the Composition Workshop Director based on availability. 
  • A bio or CV surveying your experience in composition.
  • Your headshot.

Please scan any hand-written materials, and host your audio files through an online streaming service (YouTube, Soundcloud, etc), providing the URL when prompted in the application. Keep in mind you can save your progress as you go - no need to do it all at once!

Festival Fees and Costs

The tuition fee for 2017 nief-norf Summer Festival is two thousand four hundred dollars ($2400 USD), which includes room & board for facilities on campus. But there are numerous ways to lower your costs by commuting, changing your meal plan, or taking part in our referral program.

A non-refundable downpayment of nine hundred fifty dollars ($950 USD) is due two weeks following formal acceptance to either workshop. Admission will not be granted without tuition downpayment. 

All participants are responsible for transportation to and from Knoxville, TN. Commuter plans are available to participants who have a permanent residence within 30 miles of the UT-Knoxville campus, and will reduce tuition by $450 USD. Please select the "Commuter" option in your application form if this is the case, leaving you responsible to secure your own housing off-campus. Similarly, participants may opt out of the on-campus cafeteria dining plan, reducing tuition by $250 USD.   • Full payment of tuition is due by April 05, 2017.
  • If you need to complete your final tuition payment, please do so here.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER

March 19, 2017: Final application deadline.

March 22, 2017: Final acceptance letters are dispatched; successful applicants have two weeks to make their tuition downpayment and reserve their admission.

April 5, 2017: Full payment of tuition balance due for all enrolled fellows.

June 12-26, 2017: nief-norf Summer Festival 2017
